## What it does

Share your creative field, resume and portfolio style. It plans a plain version for job portals and a designed version for direct sharing. You get layout, type and colour choices, plus clear links between your resume and your work samples.

## What you give it

- Your current resume, pasted or attached.
- Your creative field, such as design, writing, marketing or video.
- Where you plan to send it, such as job portals or direct email.
- Your portfolio link.
- Two or three work samples you want to link (optional).

## What you get

- A plan for a plain version and a designed version, with when to use each.
- Font, colour and layout choices for both versions.
- Advice on which work samples to link and how to word the links.
- A checklist to run before you send the resume.

## Example: what goes in and what comes out

### What goes in

- Your current resume (paste the text or attach the file)
- Your creative field, such as design, writing, marketing or video
- Where you will send it, such as job portals or direct email
- Your portfolio link
- Two or three work samples to link (optional)

### What comes out

- **Role type and industry**: Your creative field and whether you aim at agencies, in-house teams or freelance work.
- **Version strategy**: When to send the plain version and when to send the designed one, with file formats for each.
- **Design specifications: typography**: Headline, body and accent font choices with weight and size.
- **Design specifications: colors**: Primary, secondary and text colours with a use for each.
- **Design specifications: layout**: Single or two columns, margins and grid notes for each version.
- **Portfolio integration**: Your main portfolio link, which case studies to link, and whether to add a resume page to your site.
- **Content adjustments for your field**: Specific changes to your resume content that suit your creative role.
- **Creative resume checklist**: A final check of type, layout, colour and links before you send.

## Use it when

- You apply to creative jobs through online portals and worry the resume will not read well.
- A hiring manager asks for your resume and you want it to show your design eye.
- You are updating your portfolio site and want the resume to match it.
- You are not sure which resume version to send to an agency.

## Skip it when

- You need your resume text rewritten or scored for one job: ask your AI to edit your bullets directly, since this plan covers layout only.
- You have no resume yet and no portfolio: write the plain content first in a simple document, then come back.
- You want a finished file made for you: ask a designer, or build it in Canva, Figma or Word using the plan.

## How to use it

1. Open Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and paste the skill text into a new chat. No code or paid tool is needed.
2. Paste your resume text and tell it your creative field and where you will apply.
3. Add your portfolio link and the two or three work samples you want to show.
4. Read the plan. Check that the plain version has one column, no images and simple fonts.
5. Build both versions in Word, Google Docs, Canva or Figma. Where a result sits in your resume, only add a number if you measured it.
6. Run the checklist, then send the plain version to portals and the designed version to people.

## Creative Portfolio Resume

<!-- needs: written by tools/add-needs.mjs for AI Blocks; not part of the original skill. Edit that tool, not this section. -->
### Before you start
Use the material below to do this job. If facts or tool access are missing, explain what you can finish and what must wait.

**What you need** (use your own material or the linked skill):
- **Resumes or CVs** (yours): the resumes or CVs this job uses, pasted or attached.

**Makes it better (optional):**
- **Your question** (yours): the decision or problem, and what a good outcome looks like.

How to start:
1. **Look first.** Use what they've already attached, pasted or put in their about-me note. In a coding assistant with file access, look in the project too for these by name.
2. **Check what's missing.** Look for resumes or CVs, your question. They can attach files, paste the details, or share a file path your assistant can read. Ask only for missing facts that change the result. If they ask you to start with what they have, complete the parts you can and mark the gaps.
3. **Do the job.** Follow the skill below with the facts and tools you have. Mark each gap with `MISSING:` where it belongs and never invent a fact to fill it.

### When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when the user:
- Works in a creative field (design, marketing, writing)
- Needs to balance visual design with ATS compatibility
- Wants to showcase creative skills through resume design
- Is building a portfolio resume for creative roles
- Mentions: "creative resume", "designer resume", "visual resume", "portfolio resume", "creative field"

### Core Capabilities

- Balance visual appeal with ATS compatibility
- Design resumes for creative roles
- Integrate portfolio elements with resume content
- Advise on when to use creative vs. traditional formats
- Guide visual hierarchy and design choices
- Connect resume to portfolio effectively

### The Creative Resume Dilemma

**The Problem:**
- Creative professionals want to show design skills through their resume
- But most applications go through ATS systems
- Overly designed resumes often fail ATS parsing

**The Solution:**
Two-version approach:
1. **ATS-compatible version** for online applications
2. **Designed version** for portfolio, networking, direct submissions

### When to Use Each Version

#### Use ATS-Compatible Version When:
- Applying through online portals
- Submitting to job boards
- Resume will be parsed by software
- You're unsure how it will be processed

#### Use Designed Version When:
- Networking events
- Direct email to hiring manager
- Portfolio website
- In-person interviews
- Creative agencies that expect visual resumes
- When specifically told ATS isn't used

### ATS-Compatible Creative Resume

Even the ATS version can show creativity through:

#### Subtle Design Elements
- Strategic use of white space
- Clean typography hierarchy
- Thoughtful content organization
- Strong copywriting
- Polished, professional appearance

#### Safe Creative Touches
- ✅ Custom professional font (ATS-safe ones)
- ✅ Strategic bold and italic
- ✅ Clean section dividers (simple lines)
- ✅ Consistent, intentional spacing
- ✅ Color in your name/headers (sparing)
- ✅ Hyperlinks to portfolio

#### Still Avoid
- ❌ Multiple columns
- ❌ Text boxes
- ❌ Images or icons
- ❌ Tables for layout
- ❌ Unusual fonts
- ❌ Graphics or skill bars

### Designed Portfolio Resume

**1. Show, Don't Just Tell**

### After this
When you've handed it back, suggest what they could do next in one short question. It's a suggestion: if they're done, that's fine. Offer these, and say they can type their own:
- The [Resume version organizer](https://useaiblocks.com/skills/resume-version-organizer). It takes the resumes or CVs.
- The [Resume parsing checker](https://useaiblocks.com/skills/agency-engineering-ats-validator-architect). It takes the resumes or CVs.
- The [Resume layout editor](https://useaiblocks.com/skills/resume-layout-editor). It takes the resumes or CVs.
- The [Applicant shortlist builder](https://useaiblocks.com/skills/applicant-shortlist-builder). It takes the resumes or CVs.
- The [Product manager resume reviewer](https://useaiblocks.com/skills/product-manager-resume-reviewer). It takes the resumes or CVs.
If they pick one and that skill is added here, carry straight on with what you just made. If not, give the link and say what to bring.
