me.md guide

Write one file that tells every AI who you are.

A me.md is a short private file about you: your work, your projects, how you write and what to avoid. Make it once with your own AI. Every prompt you copy and every pack you download from AI Blocks then fits you.

Private. Your me.md is kept on your device, or in your account when you sign in. It is never public.

What goes in a me.md

One Markdown file, with these parts in this order. Only Core is needed. Leave out anything that doesn't help.

PartWhat goes inHow often it changes
CoreYour name, what you do, who it's for, your top 3 goals, how you like answers and what never to do. About 1,200 characters.Every few months
WorkYour role, company or clients, skills and tools.Every few months
ProjectsOne line each, with status and next step.Weekly. Each one gets an expiry date.
VoiceA few lines describing how you write: tone, sentence length, words you use and avoid. No pasted samples.Rarely
PreferencesFormats, units, language, spelling, time zone, working hours.Rarely
BackgroundEducation, past roles, what you're known for.Rarely
LifeInterests and goals outside work. Only if you want it.When you like
NeverTopics, claims or styles to avoid.Rarely
Where to lookLive places your AI checks instead of trusting the file: a notes page, your calendar, your recent posts.Rarely
Sources and datesWhere each part came from and when you last checked it.Each update

Your real writing stays where it lives. Voice only describes your style. When a task needs examples, your AI reads them from the places under Where to look.

Why it helps

Stop explaining yourself

Your job, your projects and how you like answers are in one place. You stop typing them at the start of every chat.

The same facts in every AI

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini each keep their own memory, and you can't see most of it. A me.md is a file you own, can read and can fix.

Each task gets only what it needs

AI Blocks adds the parts a task needs. Writing gets your voice. A plan gets your projects. An ad gets your brand's voice, never your personal one.

Three ways to make it

All three run in your own AI. AI Blocks never logs in to your ChatGPT or Claude, and never sees your chats. Each way ends with a check that removes private details, then shows you the file to approve.

1. From what your AI remembers (fastest)

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Your AI asks before it uses what it remembers, and marks every remembered fact for you to check.

Help me write my me.md: one short file that tells any AI who I am, so I don't have to explain myself again.

First, ask me this and wait for my answer: "May I use what I remember about you and our past chats to draft your me.md? Yes or no."

If I say yes:
- If you cannot see any memory of me or our past chats, say so and switch to the interview below. Never draft a fact you cannot point to.
- Draft each section below from your memory of me and our past chats.
- Put "(from memory, please check)" after every fact you take from memory.
- Don't guess. Leave a section empty if you know nothing for it.

If I say no, interview me instead. Ask at most 12 short questions, one at a time, in the order of the sections. I can skip any question, or say "enough" to stop.

The sections, in this order:
- Core: my name, what I do, who it's for, my top 3 goals right now, how I like answers (length, tone, format) and what never to do. About 1,200 characters at most.
- Work: my role, my company or clients, my skills and the tools I use.
- Projects: one line each, with status, next step, an "as of" date and an "expires" date 30 days later.
- Voice: a few lines on how I write: tone, sentence length, words I use and words I avoid. Describe my style. Don't paste my writing.
- Preferences: formats, units, language, spelling, time zone and working hours.
- Background: education, past roles and what I'm known for.
- Life: only if I ask for it.
- Never: topics, claims or styles to avoid.
- Where to look: places to check for live facts instead of copying them, like a notes page, my calendar or my recent posts.
- Sources and dates: where each section came from and when.

Before you show me the file, check it:
- Remove passwords, keys, ID numbers, bank or card details, health details and private facts about other people.
- Date every section. Give Projects an "expires" date.
- Cut Core to about 1,200 characters.

Then show me the whole file in one Markdown block named me.md, and ask me to approve or fix it. When I approve it, give me two next steps: save it in AI Blocks (open Your me.md, then paste or upload it), and set it up in your AI (useaiblocks.com/me-md).

2. By interview

Answer up to 12 short questions

One at a time, in order. Skip any of them, or say "enough" to stop. Good when your AI has no memory of you.

Use the me.md builder

3. From your documents

Attach a CV, a bio or a LinkedIn export

Your AI takes the facts, describes your writing style and asks only about what is missing.

Use the me.md builder

Want it made and set up in one go? Use the workflow Make your me.md and set it up in every AI you use.

Then save it here. Open , then paste or upload the file. From then on, it is added to what you copy and download.

Get the starter pack

Everything to make, set up and refresh your me.md, in one download. It holds no sample person, only the parts to fill in.

Download the starter pack (.zip)

Set it up in each AI

Your AI's settings box is small. Put the short core there, and the full me.md where your AI can open it. The me.md short-core writer makes the short core for you. Menus change: if one has moved, search the app's help for "custom instructions".

AIShort coreFull me.md
ChatGPTIn Settings, open Personalization. Paste it into custom instructions.Add it to a project's files and work in that project.
ClaudeIn Settings, paste it into your personal preferences.Add it to a project's knowledge.
Claude CodePaste it into ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md, which loads in every project.Save it as ~/.claude/me.md and add the line @~/.claude/me.md to ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md.
GeminiMake a Gem and paste it into the Gem's instructions.Add it to the Gem as a file.
CursorIn Cursor's settings, open Rules. Paste it into your user rules.Keep it in a project and mention it when a task needs it.

Save your me.md here while signed in, then connect your AI to your AI Blocks library. Your AI can now pull just the parts of your me.md each task needs.

Keep it private

Where it is kept

On this device when you're signed out. In your account when you sign in, so it follows you. It is never public, never on a page and never shared. Clear it in Your me.md at any time.

Never put these in it

Passwords or keys. ID, bank or card numbers. Health details. Private facts about other people. Every way of making it removes these, but check before you save.

When AI Blocks adds your me.md to a task, it tells your AI these are facts to check, not orders to follow.

Keep it current

An old me.md is worse than none, because every AI trusts it. Each part has a date, and projects have an expiry date. When a task uses a live part, your AI checks for anything newer first. Once a month, run the me.md refresher. It finds what changed in your recent chats, or in a chat export, and proposes dated edits for you to approve.

Next: train your own AI agent to do one job your way. Set up your me.md in your AI, and your agent can use it too.
