What it does
A set of questions that students can ask themselves before, during and after a task, so they notice when they are lost and fix it without waiting for you. You describe the task and the class, and the prompts are tuned to both. The prompts come in four kinds. Planning prompts help pick a strategy and a first step. Monitoring prompts test whether they really understand or just recognise the words. Evaluating prompts check the answer against the criteria. Debugging prompts locate where understanding broke. They are worded for the age group and the subject, and with no phase given, you get all three phases, weighted to where they matter most.
