Token saver for coding agents
Turn it on for coding sessions. Get fewer wasted tokens from big reads, noisy logs and repeat reads.
Token saver for coding agents is a free AI skill for the job "Set up AI to work for you". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
Cut wasted tokens in coding sessions so you hit usage limits later and pay less. Every big file or log an agent reads is re-sent on every later step, so a few careless reads cost a lot. The skill is a short set of rules your agent follows. It finds a spot first, then reads only that region. It runs a quick script to count or filter data instead of opening a huge file. It limits test, build and install output, saving long logs to a file and reading only the tail. It does not re-read what it already has, batches independent calls, prefers diffs to full files, edits instead of rewriting, and gives short answers.
You give it
- A coding agent that supports skills
- A coding task with files, tests or builds
- Permission to run shell commands
- Codebase (optional)
You get
- An agent that reads only what it needs
- Short test and build output
- Fewer repeat reads
- Leaner answers
Use it when
- Your coding sessions keep hitting the context limit.
- Your usage bill or limit climbs faster than expected.
- Test and build logs flood the conversation.
- You ask your agent to search a large codebase.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code and read your project files.
