What it does
The project ends, everyone has opinions for a week, and then the next project starts and makes the same mistakes. Review meetings produce feelings ("the brief was bad") and the feelings do not survive the month. What survives is a fact, a cause and a rule with an owner. This prompt takes your notes and separates what happened from what people thought about it. Each lesson gets the fact that shows it, and each thing to change gets a likely cause after asking why twice. Rules name a role and start with a verb, so nobody is blamed and the next team knows who does what. It names the one lesson that matters most, lists the questions nobody can answer yet, and gives you a two-line summary for chat. The whole thing fits on a page.
You give it
- Notes on what happened, good and bad
- The goal and the result, with numbers
- Planned versus actual dates (advised)
- Roles involved (optional)
You get
- Goal versus result with the gap
- What to repeat and what to change, each with a fact and a rule
- The one lesson that matters most, and what is still unknown
Use it when
- A launch just finished and you want to capture it before the details fade.
- The same problem happened on two projects in a row.
- A new team is about to run the same kind of project.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt, then paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini with your notes under it.
- Add the goal and the result with the numbers you have.
- Read CHANGE. If a cause is wrong, say what the real one was and run again.
- File the note where the next project will start, and share the SUMMARY in chat.
