Hire an AI growth and reinvestment spreadsheet modeller

Share profit forecasts, reinvestment and rates. Get a workbook linking growth to needed investment, with terminal value and reverse checks.

What you give

  • The return you expect on new money put in, and where that view comes from
  • Your discount rate (WACC) with its source and date
  • The terminal value you want to test (optional)

What you get

  • A table of reinvestment rate and the growth it can pay for, next to your forecast growth
  • The reinvestment the first stable year needs to hold your stable growth rate
  • A terminal value rebuilt from cash flow, with the reinvestment rate it implies
  • A list of gaps and any checks that could not run

An example

Your terminal value looks too big next to the cash the business would have left each year.

You ask: “Share profit forecasts, reinvestment and rates. Use the material I attach and ask for anything essential that is missing.”

You get back:

  • Growth from reinvestment. Net reinvestment as a share of NOPAT, and the growth it can pay for, next to your forecast.
  • Stable year check. Reinvestment, free cash flow and terminal value for the first stable year.
  • Backsolve. The cash flow and reinvestment rate your terminal value implies, worked backward.

An example, not your task.

Skills and workflows for this job: Research investments and business value

Details

Everything it can hand back

Your task sets the actual outputs. The specialist picks the methods that cover them.

How it does the job well

  • Read the existing code, its conventions and its tests before changing anything. Match the project's patterns.
  • Make the smallest change that fully solves the request. Keep unrelated refactors out.
  • Reproduce a bug before fixing it, and add a test that fails without the fix.
  • Treat input from users, files and networks as untrusted. Validate it at the boundary.

Mistakes it avoids

  • Claiming code works without running it or its tests.
  • Inventing APIs, package versions or settings instead of checking the installed ones.
  • Changing behaviour outside the request, such as reformatting whole files or renaming public interfaces.

What a good result looks like

An example, not your task: Your terminal value looks too big next to the cash the business would have left each year.

  • Linked workbook. Inputs, calculations and checks on separate tabs, when your AI can make files.
  • MISSING and CHECKS MISSED. Gaps in your inputs and any check that could not run.

How the work is checked

  • Forecast and terminal periods line up, growth is backed by reinvestment, WACC is above growth, and the backsolve rebuilds the value. Financial firms are sent elsewhere, not forced into free cash flow to the firm.
  • Enterprise (unlevered) cash flows use the matching discount rate.
  • Trace each material input to its source, date, currency, scale, sign and reporting period. Keep unresolved MISSING: lines.
  • Tell a real zero, missing evidence and a ratio that does not apply apart. Never force a tie with an unexplained plug.
  • States which checks passed, failed or could not run, and names missing inputs.

These checks have not been run against a model yet. Your AI uses them to check its own work.

A second opinion

Before it hands back, your AI reviews the draft the way Benjamin Graham would. This is a way of reviewing the work. It does not mean they wrote or endorse it.

Capabilities

  • Reinvestment-supported growth schedule. Lines up actual and forecast NOPAT, net capex and working capital on one business perimeter, leaving out acquisitions. Net reinvestment divided by NOPAT, times the return on new capital, gives the growth you can pay for. Compares it with your forecast and hands step 2 the first stable-year NOPAT and the growth and return it supports.
  • Terminal growth reinvestment check. Takes the first stable year. Sets reinvestment equal to growth divided by return on capital, takes it off NOPAT to get free cash flow, and divides by the discount rate less growth. Hands step 3 the terminal value and its period label.
  • Implied terminal reinvestment schedule. Starts from the terminal value and works backward. Value times (discount rate less growth) gives cash flow, and NOPAT less cash flow gives reinvestment. Flags reinvestment at or below zero, or above 100% of NOPAT. Also tests any other terminal value you supply.

How the role works

  1. Checks your task, context and available tools.
  2. Picks the methods needed and prepares a work plan.
  3. Carries out supported tasks, with each method's limits and review gates.
  4. Checks the real deliverables and corrects supported faults.
  5. Hands back files, evidence and unresolved gaps.

Your specialist's working setup

Inputs and helpful context

The specialist starts from the task brief. Only active methods require their inputs.

For the primary method, when used

  • Forecast NOPAT for each year, from your model (NOPAT is operating profit after tax)
  • Net capex for each year (spending on equipment and assets, less depreciation) and the change in operating working capital
  • The return you expect on new money put in, and where that view comes from
  • Your discount rate (WACC) with its source and date
  • The terminal value you want to test (optional)
  • Currency, scale such as millions, fiscal year end and valuation date

Helpful context (optional)

  • Your forecast model with the NOPAT, capex and working capital rows
  • Someone who knows the business, to check the return you assume on new capital

Tools and access

  • A spreadsheet engine and file-capable AI: Builds, recalculates and reopens a linked workbook. In plain chat you get the same tables as text.
  • Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini: Any of them can do these sums in a chat and show each step.
  • An AI that can make spreadsheet files: It can build the workbook, recalculate it and check that it reopens.
  • Node.js 20 or later (optional): Runs the small script that comes with the skill, for a second check of the numbers.
  • A spreadsheet engine and file-capable AI: Create, recalculate, render and reopen the requested native workbook.
  • Node.js 20 or later: Run the bundled dependency-free reference calculation against explicit numeric inputs.

Tasks you can use it for

  • Your terminal value looks too big next to the cash the business would have left each year.
  • Your model grows profit every year but reinvestment stays flat, and you want to know if that adds up.
  • A reviewer asks how the growth gets paid for and you need the numbers laid out.
  • You have a terminal value from a broker note or a deal model and want to see what it assumes about reinvestment.

Limits to check before starting

  • You are valuing a bank, insurer or other financial firm. Cash flow to the firm does not fit them, and this workflow stops and says so.
  • You want to see how fast above-average returns fade after the forecast: use the Long-term value assumption checker.
  • You want to test how the value moves when the discount rate or growth changes: use the Equity valuation scenario reviewer.

Best way to use this role

Give it one clear outcome, the actual files and a definition of done. Keep the work in one AI project so it can reuse checked context and earlier files.

  • Add the workflow pack to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. To get a workbook, use an AI that can make spreadsheet files.
  • Attach your forecast model, or paste the NOPAT, capex and working capital rows. Say the currency, scale and valuation date, and give your WACC with its source.
  • Say what return you expect on new capital and why. If you have no view, say so. It will mark that MISSING and will not invent one.
  • After step 1, check that actual and forecast NOPAT match your model and that depreciation is taken off once in net capex.
  • After step 2, check that your discount rate is higher than your growth rate. If it is not, stop and fix the inputs.
  • After step 3, check that the rebuilt cash flow gives back your terminal value. Read every MISSING line before you use the result.
