What it does
Every analysis rests on choices that could change the answer. A log of them lets a reviewer see what you assumed, how sure you are, and what breaks if you are wrong. You give the analysis name, the decision it informs, your data and the method choices you made. The skill sorts assumptions into three groups: data (is it complete and representative), business logic (metric definitions, time windows, who is included) and statistics (independence, distribution). Each gets a confidence and an impact. Low confidence and high impact items get a plan to check them. A small script keeps the log, and a template gives you a sign-off sheet.
You give it
- Analysis name and the decision it supports
- Data sources, time period and population
- The method choices you made and alternatives you dropped
- Business rules from stakeholders (optional)
- Known data quality problems (optional)
You get
- A logged list of data, business and statistical assumptions
- Confidence and impact for each
- Validation plans for the risky ones
- A sign-off sheet for reviewers
Use it when
- You start an analysis with many choices about scope and data.
- A peer or manager will review your work before sign-off.
- You are picking up an old analysis and cannot tell why it was done that way.
- You work somewhere that needs an audit trail.
