What it does
Backups that run on a schedule, get verified, and actually restore. A backup nobody has tested is a guess, so this skill builds in the test. You name the database, its size, how much data you can afford to lose and how long you can be down. The skill picks full, incremental or point-in-time backups to match. It writes shell scripts for PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB using pg_dump, mysqldump or mongodump, with compression, optional encryption, dated file names and error handling. It sets the schedule and a retention rule such as 7 daily and 4 weekly, checks file integrity, runs a test restore in staging, and sets alerts for missed runs.
You give it
- Database type and size
- Acceptable data loss window
- Acceptable downtime
- Where to store backups
- A buyer brief (optional)
You get
- Backup scripts
- Schedule and retention rule
- Integrity check and restore test
- Failure alert setup
Use it when
- Your app has no tested backups and you want some.
- You need to restore to a moment just before a bad change.
- Backup files are piling up and need a cleanup rule.
- You want an alert when a nightly backup fails.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code and reach your database.
