What it does
A budget for each department, set up so you can compare actual spending to it every month. Give it six to twelve months of past spending and your targets and you get a phased budget, variance reports and suggested fixes. It looks at trends, seasonal peaks and one-off costs in the history. It sets a top-level amount per department from your revenue goals and priorities, then breaks that into lines such as pay, software, travel and marketing. As real spending arrives it maps each item to a line and period and reports month-to-date, quarter and year. Variances are labelled as timing, one-off or lasting, and it suggests moving unused money to where it is needed.
