What it does
A clear layout for how your domains, subdomains and DNS records fit together, including redirects and what to do with the names you do not use. It works for one site or a hundred. The skill takes your list of domains, their status and their role: main brand, sub-brand, campaign or defensive. It then works through five decisions in order. The first is whether the apex or the www version is the main address; pick one before launch and redirect the other. The rest cover subdomain versus subfolder, redirect rules for parked and retired names, email and service records, and where to register. You end with a plan you can put into your DNS panel.
You give it
- A list of all your domains and their status
- The role of each domain
- Your DNS provider and registrar
- Email and outside services that depend on them
You get
- A DNS layout for each domain
- The main address decision
- Redirect rules
- A plan for parked and unused names
- A list of records to set
Use it when
- You own several domains and no one remembers what each is for.
- You are launching a new site and need to pick apex or www.
- You are merging two sites and need redirects planned.
- You must decide between a subdomain and a subfolder for a new product.
