AI Blocks › Set up AI to work for you
Folder guide writer
Pick a folder. Get a short CLAUDE.md that tells future AI helpers how that folder works.
Folder guide writer is a free AI skill for the job "Set up AI to work for you". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
A short CLAUDE.md file for one folder, so any AI helper that opens it knows what the work is, which files matter and what not to touch. A matching AGENTS.md points to the same file. First it checks the folder is worth a guide. Then it reads every file in full, not just names. Before writing, it shows you a bullet list of what it plans to include, so you can react. Sections cover purpose, key files, hard limits, naming habits, decisions already made and how you like to work. The hard limits section tends to pay off most. You approve the list, then it writes the file.
You give it
- Path to the folder
- All files in it, readable by the AI
- Rules and limits you want kept (optional)
- Style notes on how you work (optional)
You get
- Draft outline for approval
- Folder-level CLAUDE.md
- AGENTS.md linked to it
- List of hard limits and locked decisions
Use it when
- You keep re-explaining a project folder to your AI each session.
- A folder has rules, such as files never to edit, that the AI keeps breaking.
- You made decisions and do not want them reopened.
- You want Claude Code and other agents to read the same instructions.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can read and write your project files.
