What it does
A free gift can raise order value without a discount, if the gift is right and the spend tier is set well. A cheap tote bag does neither. The best gift is something shoppers already want, or a product from a category they did not come for, so the gift acts as a trial of that line. This skill picks the gift first, then sets the first spend tier about 30 to 40 percent above your current average order. It runs the numbers for each tier so the top tier does not turn a profitable cart into a loss. It checks that the gift costs less than the extra order value it earns, writes messages for the banner, product page and cart progress bar, and sets a stop rule before launch. It needs gift stock on hand and works best with several categories.
You give it
- Your products with price, cost per unit and sales share
- Current average order value and how order sizes spread
- Shipping cost per order
- The category you want shoppers to try next (optional)
- Candidate gifts with what each costs and sells for
- Your results (optional)
You get
- Two to four spend tiers with the reward at each
- Cost of each tier as a share of order value, and a break-even check for each gift
- Banner, product page and cart lines for each tier
- A before-and-after margin model and a stop condition
Use it when
- You want a bigger average order without cutting prices.
- You have a product that shoppers want and could use as a gift to move them into another category.
- You run a free shipping threshold and want a second reason to add to the cart.
