What it does
A platform says its ads earned 5 for every dollar. An incrementality test asks how many of those sales would have happened without the ads. The answer is often far lower, and it tells you where the next dollar should go. This skill starts with the hardest question: should you test at all? A small store, or one with a single channel, usually should not. If a test makes sense, it picks the type. An in-platform lift test holds back some users and compares purchase rates. A region test turns spend up or off in one set of matched regions and compares sales with a control set. It sets the dates, a window after the test for late sales, and the formula to read the result. It then turns the result into a factor you apply to the platform's ROAS. Tests cost real money, so it also says what can…
You give it
- The channel or campaign to test and its monthly spend
- Sales by region for 6 to 12 months, with spend, new-customer revenue and new-customer orders
- How much budget you can add or cut for the test, and how many weeks you have
- The channel's ROAS now and your break-even ROAS
- Your yearly revenue and where else you sell
- Your question (optional)
You get
- A clear call on whether to test now, with a cheaper check if not
- The test type, treatment and control regions with the reason, dates and spend change
- The read-out formula, the noise band and a cut, hold or scale rule
- The factor to apply to platform ROAS, and the mistakes to avoid
Use it when
- You spend on more than one channel and need to know where the next dollar earns most.
- You doubt that a channel, such as branded search or an automated Google campaign, really earns what it reports.
- A platform's number and your store's sales do not match, and the Platform ROAS reality check could not settle it.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste the channel, spend, yearly revenue and regional sales history. Say what you can afford to risk.
- If it says do not test yet, do the cheaper check it names and come back later.
- If it plans a test, hand the region design to an analyst or a testing vendor to check the match.
- Run one test at a time, with no promotions in the window, then read it with the rule it gave you.
