What it does
A term-long learning cycle for children aged 5 to 12 that starts from a real place near your school, such as a pond, a hedge or a stream. It gives teachers a clear order of work, from noticing to action, so the project does not drift. The cycle is called SEEDS. Children first tune in to the place and gather what they already know. They then picture what could be better, try small ideas, document what happens and share it with people in the community. The plan names the activities for each stage, suggests ways to record learning through stories and portfolios, and links the work to local people who can help. It fits early years or primary groups.
You give it
- Age group, early years or primary
- The place the work will centre on
- Time available (optional)
- Local people and groups who could help (optional)
- A known problem or hope for the place (optional)
You get
- A cycle overview with the place at its centre
- Activities for each stage
- Ways to record and share learning
- A list of community links to approach
Use it when
- You teach young children and want learning anchored in a nearby habitat.
- Your school wants a project that involves local people and groups.
- You have a term to fill and want a clear order of steps.
- You need a way to record learning without tests.
