What it does
A present value for oil and gas reserves, worked out step by step so you can check every line. The headline figure is PV-10: all future net cash flow, discounted at 10 percent a year. The skill first sorts reserves by certainty, as proved, probable or possible. It then forecasts output with a decline curve, multiplies by price, and takes off production taxes, lifting costs and development spending. You choose the price basis, such as a 12-month average or a forward curve. It discounts each year, adds them up, and works out how many years the reserves will last. It also explains that PV-10 is before tax and the standardised measure is after tax.
