Open-source contribution preparer
Point it at an open-source issue. Get a checked fix, rerun tests and a drafted post held for your approval.
Open-source contribution preparer is a free AI skill for the job "Test and fix code". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
A careful way to prepare a fix for someone else's open source project, ending at a queue item that you approve. The agent never posts anything itself. It works in gates. First it checks whether the project allows AI-assisted pull requests. Then it asks the maintainer for a go-ahead if needed, checks for duplicate work, and reproduces the bug. Only then does it write a small patch, rerun the tests, and draft a pull request with the right disclosure note. It also handles follow-ups on your own pull requests: replies to reviews, a 14-day ping and a 28-day close. It refuses unasked refactors or features in other people's repos.
You give it
- The repo and the issue link
- A bug you can reproduce, or permission to search open issues
- Your approval queue details
- Disclosure wording for the project (optional)
You get
- A policy and duplicate check
- A reproduction of the bug
- A tested patch
- A pull request draft held for your approval
Use it when
- You found a bug in a project you do not maintain and want to fix it properly.
- You need to know if a repo accepts AI-assisted pull requests first.
- You want a ready draft but need to approve before anything is posted.
- A maintainer has not replied to your pull request and you need a follow-up.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code and read the repo.
