PCB passive part designer
Say which part you need, such as an inductor or balun. Get it designed and checked.
PCB passive part designer is a free AI skill for the job "Build and ship software". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
Tell it the part, such as a spiral inductor, interdigital capacitor, ring resonator or balun, and get a design you can measure instead of guess at. It pulls out the numbers that matter: inductance, capacitance and self-resonant frequency. The skill creates the part from a catalogue object, tunes it for your target frequency, and then reads its values at that frequency. It can use fast behavioural S-parameters for quick estimates. Before a full solve it checks the mesh and memory need, so you do not start a run that will not finish. After design you move on to full-wave checks, tuning and circuit work. It runs in MATLAB with the RF PCB Toolbox, and needs a substrate set first.
You give it
- The part type
- Your target frequency
- The substrate and metal you use
- Size limits (optional)
You get
- A designed part object
- Inductance, capacitance or resonance values
- Quick behavioural S-parameters
- A memory and mesh estimate before the full solve
Use it when
- You need a spiral inductor for a given inductance on your board.
- You want to check where a capacitor stops acting like a capacitor.
- You are building a balun to join a balanced and an unbalanced line.
- You want a ring resonator for a filter or test structure.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run MATLAB with PCB Toolbox.
