What it does
A clear verdict on how far to trust a study or a scientific claim, in plain words. You learn what the evidence can and cannot show. Give it the paper, the abstract or the claim. The skill works through an appraisal. It checks the study design, looks for bias and confounders, tests whether the statistics fit the question, and rates the strength of evidence using recognised grading ideas such as GRADE and the Cochrane risk-of-bias approach. It applies those tools to the right unit, such as a single study versus a body of work. When something is unclear, it says so instead of guessing, and it can also be used to teach critical reading.
You give it
- The study, abstract or claim
- The question you want answered
- Your background with statistics (optional)
You get
