What it does
Most name marks add a symbol next to the name because that is the habit. The symbol then carries the idea, and the name becomes plain text. Letters can often do both jobs, if you ask how they might act out the meaning: lean, stack, sink, crowd together or run off the edge. This skill starts from the meaning of the name and lists shape moves, then writes several sketch ideas, each one short enough to draw in a minute. It matches a typeface to each idea, tightens spacing until the name reads as one shape, and says plainly how much each idea costs in ease of reading. It then picks one and cuts the rest.
You give it
- The name, spelled exactly as it should appear
- What the name means and what it should make people feel
- Where the mark will be used (optional)
- Your brand file, for tone and colour limits (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
You get
- At least five different shape ideas, each a sketch you can draw
- A typeface type and spacing note for each
- A pick, with what it costs in ease of reading
- A small-size check and an image plan for the sketches
Use it when
- You have a name and a blank page where the logo should go.
- Your current mark is a symbol plus plain text and nothing connects them.
- You want a mark that works with no icon, for tiny sizes or print.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Type the name and one line on what it means.
- Say what feeling it should give someone who sees it for a second.
- Paste any limits, such as one colour or a name that must stay lower case.
- Draw the pick and two others on paper. Show them to a stranger and ask what the name means.
- Take the pick to a designer or a type tool.
