What it does
Comparing many things, such as tools, vendors, papers or markets, takes days. You open twenty tabs, lose track of what you checked and end up with a table of guesses mixed with facts. One search prompt cannot do it, because it skims each item and fills gaps with plausible words. The workflow plans first. It lists the items and the fields to answer for each, adds items it finds online and lets you trim the list. It then researches one item at a time in batches, saving a file per item and marking unsure answers. Last it builds one report with a contents list and a section per item, leaving out anything marked unsure. This uses many searches and takes time, so start with a small batch. It is not worth running for a list of three items.
You give it
- The topic, such as "AI note-taking apps for small teams"
- The time range that matters, such as since 2024
- Any items you already know must be included (optional)
- The fields you care about most, such as price, users or limits (optional)
You get
- An outline with the items to compare and the fields to answer for each
- One research file per item, with unsure answers marked
- One report with a contents list and a section per item
- Gaps shown as gaps, since unsure answers are left out
Use it when
- You must compare ten or more tools, vendors or competitors.
- You need a market or literature map with the same questions asked of each item.
- You want a report where every answer has a source and gaps are visible.
Steps
- Research outline builder: Give it a topic. Get a list of items to compare and questions to answer for each, found online. Scrapes sites.
- Item-by-item researcher: Give it your research outline. Get a checked file for every item, with each answer filled in or marked unsure. Scrapes sites.
- Research results report builder: Give it your research files. Get one report with a contents list and every checked answer. Unsure ones are left out.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Give the topic and time range. Trim the list of items and fields when it asks.
- Approve the first small batch before it does the rest.
- Choose which numbers show in the contents list of the report.
