What it does
"Just checking in, can we hop on a quick call?" is the easiest email in the world to ignore. It asks the reader to commit, and people guard their yes. The same reader will happily tell you no, because no feels safe. That is the idea Chris Voss explains in public, and it works in email as well as in a hostage talk. This prompt finds every line that pushes for a yes and says why it gets ignored. Then it rewrites the email around one question where a "no" is the answer you want, such as "Have you given up on fixing this?" or "Would it be a bad idea to send the draft Friday?". It adds one line that names what the reader may be feeling, cuts everything else, and gives you two spare questions and what to say when the no comes back.
You give it
- The draft email or the thread so far
- What you want to happen next
- Who they are and how long since they replied (advised)
You get
- The lines that push for yes, with why each gets ignored
- The rewritten email under 80 words, with a subject line
- Two spare no-oriented questions and what to reply when the no comes
Use it when
- A prospect went quiet after a good first call.
- A colleague has not answered three polite nudges.
- You are about to send 'just checking in' for the second time.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt, then paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini with your email under it.
- Say what you want to happen and who the reader is.
- Pick the question that fits the relationship. The marked one is the AI's pick, not yours.
- Send it, and when the no arrives, use the IF THEY SAY NO line.
