Bug root cause finder
Describe the bug. Get the cause proven with evidence before any code is changed, so fixes stop being guesses.
Bug root cause finder is a free AI skill for the job "Test and fix code". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
Stops your AI from guessing at fixes. It must prove the cause first, and you approve it before any code is changed. The skill runs five phases in order. Reproduce: run the failing test a few times and record the exact error, without reading code. Isolate: read code and add marked debug logging only. Root cause: ask why repeatedly, remove the logging, and state the cause. Then it stops and waits for you to agree. Fix: make the smallest change for the confirmed cause. Verify: rerun the failing test and the related ones. It is made for stubborn, intermittent or regression bugs.
You give it
- The failing command or test
- A description of the bug
- Access to the code
You get
- The exact error captured
- A narrowed-down location
- A root cause for your approval
- A minimal fix after you agree
- Proof that tests pass
Use it when
- An AI agent keeps making fixes that do not stick.
- A bug comes and goes and you need a disciplined approach.
- You want to approve the diagnosis before any edits happen.
- A bug appeared after a recent change and you need the cause.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code and read your project files.
