What it does
A clear way to choose a contract manufacturer, and a plan to run the deal once you sign. It helps you avoid picking on price alone and finding out about quality problems after launch. It starts with why you need a co-packer at all: spare capacity, a seasonal peak, a new product or a new region. Then it asks about your product, packaging, shelf life, rules such as FDA or organic, volumes and minimum orders. From that it sets up a make-or-buy view, a scorecard for comparing candidates, and ways to manage quality, cost and lead times after the contract starts.
You give it
- What you need made or packed
- Volumes and seasonal peaks
- Quality and compliance needs
- Current co-packers and issues (optional)
- Document (optional)
You get
- A make-or-buy view
- A co-packer scorecard
- Questions to ask each candidate
- A plan to manage the relationship
Use it when
- Your own plant is full and you need more output.
- You are launching a product and cannot afford a factory.
- Your current co-packer keeps missing quality or delivery targets.
- You are comparing three quotes and want a fair scorecard.
