AI Blocks › Build and ship software
Connected hardware finder
Ask what devices are plugged in. Get them listed with the add-ons each one needs.
Connected hardware finder is a free AI skill for the job "Build and ship software". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
A quick answer to what hardware is plugged into your computer and what MATLAB add-ons each device needs. You stop hunting through menus to see why a board is not recognised. You ask in plain words, such as what is connected, which devices handle CAN, or what the USB data acquisition unit can do. Claude uses the helper scripts that ship with the skill to list devices, search by capability and read a device's details. It then checks whether the support package for each device is installed and says what is missing. It only reports. To collect data or program a device, you move on to a device-specific skill. It needs MATLAB installed.
You give it
- Your question about devices
- MATLAB on your computer
- Device names or capabilities of interest (optional)
- A buyer brief (optional)
You get
- A list of connected devices
- Devices matched to a capability
- Details for a named device
- The support packages you need to install
Use it when
- You plugged in a board and MATLAB does not seem to see it.
- You need to know which of your devices support analogue input.
- A project needs a support package and you are unsure if it is installed.
- You inherited a lab setup and want an inventory.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run MATLAB on a computer with the hardware.
