What it does
Most stores watch the return on ad spend shown inside the ad platform. That number does not say whether a new customer pays back. The ratio of lifetime gross profit (LTGP) to customer acquisition cost (CAC) does. CAC is total ad spend divided by new customers. LTGP is the gross profit after product cost and delivery cost over a fixed time window. This skill sets the time window from how often your customers reorder, reads LTGP from a cohort table, and places the ratio in a band. It also checks the pattern where CAC creeps up, fewer customers arrive and spend rises to hold revenue. The bands are rules of thumb from an agency operator who works with large stores, not laws. A store with under a year of orders gets a shorter window and a flagged estimate.
You give it
- Ad spend and new customers per month
- Gross profit per order after product cost and delivery cost
- Cohort revenue at day 30, 90, 180 and 365, by month of first purchase (from the Shopify cohort report)
- Your product category, and a list of big changes with dates (optional)
- Your question (optional)
You get
- CAC and LTGP by month, with the time window used and why
- The LTGP to CAC ratio and its band: scale, hold or fix
- Which side is moving, CAC or LTGP
- A list of changes to timestamp, and a score out of 100 with its sum
Use it when
- Revenue is flat or falling while ad spend rises.
- You want to know if you can raise your ad budget safely.
- You judge ads by platform ROAS and suspect it hides a payback problem.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste ad spend and new customers by month, and your cohort table.
- Add your cost of goods and delivery cost per order. Real figures work better than a guessed percentage.
- Read the band, then the side that is moving, and fix that side first.
- Write down every big change with its date, and run the check again in a month.
