AI Blocks › Build and ship software
Machine vision inspector builder
Describe the inspection job. Get a system that finds defects, counts parts or measures them.
Machine vision inspector builder is a free AI skill for the job "Build and ship software". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
An inspection system that finds defects, counts parts or measures them from camera images, matched to your problem. It runs in MATLAB with the Visual Inspection Toolbox. It first picks an approach: rule-based, AI-based or a mix. Rules suit measuring widths, gaps and angles in real units. AI suits defects, and it can learn from images of good parts only. Counting uses shape matching, or few-shot counting when parts vary. When you have few defect photos, it makes more by copy-paste augmentation. Last comes deployment as a standalone app, C code for edge devices, GPU code, ONNX export, or a Beckhoff PLC. Camera setup is out of scope.
You give it
- The inspection task
- Sample images of parts
- Measurement units or tolerances (optional)
- The target device for running it
You get
- A recommended approach
- MATLAB code to build it
- Training data ideas
- Deployment steps for your target
Use it when
- You need to catch scratches or dents on manufactured parts.
- You only have photos of good parts and no defect examples.
- You need to measure part dimensions from images in millimetres.
- You want to count identical parts on a belt.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run MATLAB with the Visual Inspection Toolbox.
