What it does
A writer reads their own scene knowing the answer, so every line feels tense. A reader does not know, and will leave at the first paragraph that does not move the question. This skill reads the scene as that reader. It states the open question in one sentence. Then it goes paragraph by paragraph and marks whether the question is raised, pressed, delayed or forgotten. It finds the lowest-pull paragraph, the place where a reader would stop for the night. It also checks that the last line leaves the question open and that the opening has pressure. For each weak spot it gives a fix: a cut, a sharper detail, a new complication or a moved line. It then gives a verdict on the pull.
You give it
- Your scene
- Your hook plan from "Next-page hook planner" (optional)
- Plan (optional)
You get
- The open question, as the skill reads it
- Each paragraph marked raised, pressed, delayed or forgotten
- The lowest-pull paragraph, and a fix
- A check of the opening and the last line
- A verdict of strong, patchy or flat
Use it when
- Test readers say your scene is "fine" but nobody asks what happens next.
- You cannot tell which part of your chapter drags.
- You have drafted from a plan and want to check the pull before you polish.
