What it does
A scene can have the right question and still read flat. The usual causes are general words, long set-up before the trouble and an ending that explains instead of stopping. This skill drafts from your plan. It opens in the middle of the trouble with one concrete detail, uses names of real things (a brand of soup, a make of car, a song on the radio) in place of general words, and keeps the beats short. It slips the character's thoughts in as asides and puts the worst thing late. It holds back the one fact that answers the question. It then stops on the line you planned. It writes a draft you can edit, not a finished chapter.
You give it
- A hook plan from "Next-page hook planner"
- Fair-escape notes from "Fair escape checker" (optional)
- A few lines of your own writing, so it can match your voice (optional)
- The point of view and the tense you want (optional)
- Audit report (optional)
You get
- A drafted scene of 400 to 900 words
- The stop line at the end, as planned
- A short note on what it held back and where it planted details
- A list of the facts it had to mark as missing
Use it when
- You have a plan for a scene and need a first draft that does not drift.
- Your drafts explain the feeling instead of showing the object.
- Your scenes have the right ending but a slow start.
