Prototype to production guide
Give it a working prototype. Get tests, cleaner structure and a plan to make it ready for real users.
Prototype to production guide is a free AI skill for the job "Test and fix code". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
A step-by-step path from a prototype that works but scares you to a product you can ship. It starts with a safety net of tests, so each later change is safe to make. The guide runs nine phases: protect with tests, clean up the code, refactor, tidy design, separate business rules, apply sound engineering habits, harden for failures, plan for scale and handle data. It asks you a question at every decision. Results go into project files for testing, tech debt and a plan, so you can stop and resume in a later session. It is meant for AI-built or fast-built prototypes you now need to trust.
You give it
- Access to your prototype code
- Who will use it and how soon
- Your biggest worries about it
- Time you can spend each week (optional)
You get
- Tests around the key behaviour
- Cleaner code structure
- Tech debt list
- Production readiness plan saved in your docs folder
Use it when
- Your app works on your machine but you are afraid to touch the code.
- An AI built your prototype and now real users are coming.
- You need tests before you refactor anything.
- You want a written plan to pay down technical debt.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
