What it does
When six people read your draft, you get six sets of opinions. Some agree, some clash, some are only a mood. Acting on every one of them makes a muddle. Acting on none wastes the readers. This skill applies a few plain rules. If most of your readers raise the same problem, it is a problem and you fix it. If readers split, one loving a thing and another disliking it, it is a wash, and the writer decides. A fact a reader caught is checked and fixed. Your ideal reader counts the most, because you are writing for them. Notes too vague to act on, such as I liked the feel, are set aside with a question to ask. The result is one ranked list for the next draft.
