What it does
After a project, ten lists of five items is a pile of overlapping remarks. Read quickly, it is easy to see only what fits the story you already believe: we did well, so it was all good, or we failed, so it was all bad. This skill finds the themes in the team's own words and counts who raised each one. A theme on both lists is marked contested, and both views are shown. It sets each theme beside your numbers and writes the match as a question, not a verdict. It challenges first conclusions, lists what cannot be seen and moves personal hurts to a separate list.
You give it
- Each person's do-again and never-again lists
- The numbers pulled for the review, with their definitions (optional)
- The prep plan, if you have one (optional)
- Plan (optional)
You get
- Five to eight themes with counts on each list
- Contested themes shown side by side
- Each theme beside the numbers, written as a question
- Challenges to first conclusions, and what cannot be seen
- A neutral list of old hurts and two questions for each top theme
Use it when
- You collected lists after a project and need to see what they add up to.
- You are about to run a review and want the main themes ready.
- You suspect the team is reading the result into every comment.
