What it does
A fair value range for a company, built from three angles that check each other, with the assumptions that move the answer shown plainly. First, a cash flow model: project free cash flow for five to ten years, discount it, and add a terminal value. A warning appears if the terminal value is over 75 percent of the total. Second, trading multiples from five to ten peers, using median and quartile ranges. Third, past deals, which include a control premium of about 20 to 35 percent. A bridge then turns company value into equity value by subtracting debt and other claims. The purpose of the valuation, such as a sale or a tax test, sets the standard used.
