What it does
Efficient businesses are fragile businesses. One supplier, one ad channel, one person who knows the system, no stock buffer and three weeks of cash. It runs beautifully until one Tuesday. Nassim Taleb has argued in public that the fix is slack and backups, bought on purpose, before the shock, and that a long smooth record is not evidence you are safe. This prompt lists everything your business leans on and how much each carries, finds the ones with no backup, and runs three bad weeks through them to see what breaks and how long until it hurts cash. For each weak point it prices the slack that would absorb the shock, in money and time, and ranks the additions by protection per cost, with anything that guards against ruin first. It also tells you what to leave fragile because a backup is not worth it.
You give it
- What you depend on and how much each carries
- Months of cash and how long key things take to replace (advised)
- Past shocks and what they cost (optional)
- The loss you cannot afford (optional)
You get
- Dependencies with the single points of failure marked
- Three bad weeks traced to cash
- Slack and backups priced, and the first three to add
- What to leave fragile, and a note on quiet records
Use it when
