What it does
When a decision sits past the edge of what you know, there are four honest moves: learn it, borrow someone else's skill, try it cheaply, or stay out. People often pick a fifth, which is to hope. This skill decides between the four using three questions: how big and how reversible is the decision, how long would learning take, and who else could you rely on without being bent by their pay or their habit of seeing every problem their way. It then writes a short plan for the first week, including the few big ideas to learn to the point of daily use.
