Hire an AI X research analyst
Turn X (Twitter) posts into a sourced brief on your brand, rivals or audience, with a reusable search list and next steps.
What you give
- The decision the research should help with, in one line, such as "Should we answer a rival's price cut?"
- Your brand name, handles and product names, and the rivals and topics to cover
- The posts to study, pasted with links, or an export from X or a data service
What you get
- A sourced brief with the question, the scope, the key findings and the confidence for each
- A signal timeline of what happened and when, with a link for each entry
- A search table of phrases, handles and exclusions you can reuse
- A monitoring plan with what to watch, how often and what counts as a spike
An example
A rival just launched something and you want to know how buyers on X are reacting before you reply.
You ask: “Turn X (Twitter) posts into a sourced brief on your brand, rivals or audience, with a reusable search list and next steps. Use the material I attach and ask for anything essential that is missing.”
You get back:
- Brief. The question, scope and numbered findings, each with a link, a confidence level and what it means.
- Signal timeline. A table of what happened and when, with the source link and action for each signal.
- Search table. Reusable search phrases, handles, languages, words to leave out and how often to review each.
An example, not your task.

Details
Everything it can hand back
Your task sets the actual outputs. The specialist picks the methods that cover them.
- A sourced brief with the question, the scope, the key findings and the confidence for each
- A signal timeline of what happened and when, with a link for each entry
- A search table of phrases, handles and exclusions you can reuse
- A monitoring plan with what to watch, how often and what counts as a spike
How it does the job well
- Use public posts or data the user is allowed to use. Never work out who is behind an account, expose personal details, or suggest going after anyone.
- Every finding needs a link, handle and time from the supplied posts. If you cannot give one, mark the finding "no source supplied" and lower its confidence.
- Label each finding as Seen (in the posts) or Reading (your inference). Give a confidence level (low, medium or high) and the number of posts and accounts behind it.
- State the sample limits: how the posts were collected, what was left out and how repeats were handled. A pasted sample is not the whole conversation.
- Keep API keys out of the chat. If the user pastes one, tell them to revoke it and use an environment variable.
- Write for one named audience and one action. Each asset has a single job.
- Use the customer's own words from reviews, calls or surveys before inventing language.
Mistakes it avoids
- Calling a topic a trend from a handful of accounts or one day of posts.
- Counting reposts as separate voices.
- Guessing who is behind an account, or listing private details.
- Copying the profile's example table row as if it were real data.
- Generic copy that could fit any brand.
- Comparing periods or campaigns that are not comparable, such as different dates, budgets or tracking.
What a good result looks like
An example, not your task: A rival just launched something and you want to know how buyers on X are reacting before you reply.
- Brief. The question, scope and numbered findings, each with a link, a confidence level and what it means.
- Signal timeline. A table of what happened and when, with the source link and action for each signal.
- Search table. Reusable search phrases, handles, languages, words to leave out and how often to review each.
- Monitoring plan. What to watch, how often to check, and the spike level that should trigger a review.
- Recommended actions. Steps sorted into now, this week and watch list.
- Limits and checks still needed. What the posts cannot show, and what you must confirm before you act.
How the work is checked
- Every claim traces to the brand brain or supplied evidence.
- Each recommendation states the expected effect, the cost and how it will be measured.
- Copy fits the platform's length limits and the brand voice.
- States which checks passed, failed or could not run, and names missing inputs.
These checks have not been run against a model yet. Your AI uses them to check its own work.
A second opinion
Before it hands back, your AI reviews the draft the way Rand Fishkin would. This is a way of reviewing the work. It does not mean they wrote or endorse it.
Capabilities
- Frame the decision. It restates the question, the deadline and the proof you need. If a part is missing it asks once, then marks it MISSING.
- Build the search. It lists exact phrases, handles, hashtags, misspellings and rival names, and the words to leave out.
- Clean the posts. It removes reposts, spam and off-topic matches. It keeps each link, handle and time in UTC.
- Group and test. It groups posts into themes. It checks if a spike comes from many accounts or a few, and over what time.
- Mark fact or guess. Each finding is marked as seen in the posts or as its own reading, with a confidence level and sample size.
- Write the brief. You get the brief, timeline, search table and monitoring plan, with actions sorted into now, this week and watch.
How the role works
- Checks your task, context and available tools.
- Picks the methods needed and prepares a work plan.
- Carries out supported tasks, with each method's limits and review gates.
- Checks the real deliverables and corrects supported faults.
- Hands back files, evidence and unresolved gaps.

Inputs and helpful context
The specialist starts from the task brief. Only active methods require their inputs.
For the primary method, when used
- The decision the research should help with, in one line, such as "Should we answer a rival's price cut?"
- Your brand name, handles and product names, and the rivals and topics to cover
- The posts to study, pasted with links, or an export from X or a data service
- The date range to cover and any words to leave out (optional)
Helpful context (optional)
- A list of your products, nicknames and common misspellings.
- Your past support tickets or complaints, to compare with what X shows.
Tools and access
- Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini with web search: It can open public posts and check links. Search results are partial, so treat counts as a sample.
- Xquik, a paid X data service: Gives structured X data and alerts. Not required. Check its current terms and prices yourself.

- Anything that goes beyond their public record, marked
- One suggested next step
Tasks you can use it for
- A rival just launched something and you want to know how buyers on X are reacting before you reply.
- Mentions of your brand jumped overnight and you need to know if it is a real problem, a support issue or a few loud accounts.
- You want to know what your customers complain about or ask for on X, in their own words.
- You need a list of search phrases and accounts to watch for your brand and category.
Limits to check before starting
- You want to write or schedule posts. This agent does research only. Use the X post and reply writer for replies.
- You want to track results of paid social ads. Use the Paid social advertising strategist.
- You expect it to watch X live and alert you. A chat AI cannot do that without a data service and a webhook set up by you.
- You want to find out who is behind an account or collect personal details. It will not do that.
Best way to use this role
Give it one clear outcome, the actual files and a definition of done. Keep the work in one AI project so it can reuse checked context and earlier files.
- Download the pack from this page and add it to your AI as a skill. If you cannot, paste SKILL.md into a new chat, then paste references/source-agent.md.
- Tell it the decision you need to make, your brand names and handles, and the rivals or topics to cover.
- Paste the posts with their links and times, or attach an export. If your AI can search the web, say so. If you have an X data service such as Xquik, which is paid, say that too.
- Type "Make the brief. Show the link for each finding. Say how sure you are and how many posts it rests on."
- Read the confidence lines first. Open two or three of the cited posts yourself before you act on a finding.
- Take the search table to your monitoring tool, or run the brief again each week with fresh posts.
