What it does
The bond half of a plan looks dull and hides two traps. The first is tax: a higher headline yield can pay less after tax. The second is price: a long bond that is perfectly safe to be repaid can still fall a long way in price when interest rates rise. This skill turns both into sums. It finds the tax rate at which a tax-free bond beats a taxable one, and it shows how far a bond of each length could move in price if rates change by a stated amount. It then ranks the safe kinds first, keeps high-yield bonds out of a plain plan, and notes where a bank deposit can stand in for a short bond. It also reminds you to check the call date. It names no bond or fund.
