What it does
Ad accounts need a steady flow of new ads, because winners fade. Too few and sales slide. Too many weak ones and money goes to waste. In one case, an account making 2,000 ads a month at about 4M in spend lost money. Volume only counts above a quality bar, and each ad must differ in concept from the others. This skill gives you the number three ways so you can see a range. The first is a quick rule: about one new ad per 1,000 of monthly spend. The second works back from your revenue target. The third counts how many winners died last month and divides by your hit rate. It then sets the creative budget for your spend band, compares profit per ad by format, and gives a weekly quota. The numbers come from large accounts, so small stores should use the ratios and not the totals.
You give it
- Monthly ad spend and your new-customer revenue target
- Ad count, spend and revenue for the last 12 months, on a 7-day click basis
- Winners live now, how many ended last month, and your hit rate
- What a static, a video and a creator video cost you to make
- Contribution margin per sale (optional)
You get
- Ads needed per month by three methods, with the range
- The creative budget for your spend band
- Cost per ad and profit per ad by format
- Who to hire or hold at your stage, a content mix and a weekly quota
Use it when
- You are setting next month's creative plan and need to know how many ads to make.
- Your winners keep fading and you suspect you are not making enough.
- You need to decide whether to hire an editor, film more or make more image ads.
