What it does
When a small, cheap rival appears, there are two mistakes. One is to ignore it because your best customers do not want it. The other is to panic about every new entrant. Often the right answer is to watch, and sometimes it is to act now. This skill tests the rival against one pattern. A disruptor starts at the low end, or with people who were not buying at all. It sells something your best customers do not need, at a price its model can support, and it improves until it is good enough for your mainstream. The skill checks each part, scores the fit out of 100 from the facts you give it, looks for a fact that argues against the verdict, and gives a response with an owner.
You give it
- The rival: price, buyers, how it makes money, when it started
- Your best customers, prices and margins
- Dated facts on the rival's growth or changes (optional)
You get
- A pattern-fit score out of 100, with what it measures
- A verdict: nuisance, watch or real threat
- A fact that argues against the verdict
- A response with an owner and a date
Use it when
- A cheaper or simpler rival has appeared and your team disagrees about how worried to be.
- Your best customers say they do not want what the rival offers.
- You are deciding whether to build a simpler version or start a new unit.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Describe the rival: price, buyers, how it earns money.
- Describe your best customers and your own margins.
- Read the score and the verdict, then the counter-fact.
- Take the response to the owner it names.
