What it does
A runbook your on-call engineer can follow at 3 a.m. without thinking hard: how bad is it, what to check first, how to fix it and who to tell. You name the service and get a ready draft. The skill starts with severity levels, each with an impact description, a response time and an example, so no one argues about urgency mid-crisis. It then lays out stages: detect, triage, reduce harm, resolve, communicate. Each stage has copyable commands and checks. It adds escalation paths, message templates for status pages and stakeholders, and a recovery section. The templates adapt to a web service, a database or a queue.
You give it
- The service name and what it does
- Its main parts and dependencies
- Your team's escalation contacts (optional)
- Past incidents, if any (optional)
- Codebase (optional)
You get
- A severity table
- Step-by-step response stages
- Commands and checks to run
- Escalation paths
- Message templates
Use it when
- A new service is going live and has no response plan.
- On-call staff keep guessing during outages.
- You need clear rules for who gets paged at each severity.
- You want ready-made messages for customers during an incident.
- A new engineer joins the on-call rotation next week.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
