What it does
A factory quote is not your cost. The price on the quote covers making the product. After the goods leave the factory, you pay for freight, duties and taxes, insurance, packaging, warehouse storage, pick and pack, platform and payment fees, and courier fees. One founder in the source saw a margin that looked like 60 percent land near 20 percent once every layer was in. A heated hoodie that costs $40 to make cannot sell at $50. This skill lists every layer, then divides the total by the units that pass inspection, not the units you ordered. It shows air against sea, a small order against a big one, and the selling price you need for your target margin. The score tells you how safe the numbers are. It is a house scale, and the page shows how each point is earned. It also gives you the figures to load…
You give it
- The factory price per unit (ex-factory) and the units you will order
- Freight quote, your duty and tax rate, insurance and packaging costs
- Warehouse costs: storage, pick and pack, and courier fees per order
- Your selling price, with or without sales tax, plus platform and payment fees
- Your expected defect share, or leave it blank for the 10 percent spare rule (optional)
- Spreadsheet (optional)
You get
- Cost per unit by layer, from ex-factory to courier
- Cost per sellable unit after defects and spare units
- Your margin at your price, and the price you need for your target margin
- Scenarios: air or sea, small or big order, each at its own price break
- A go or no-go, a score out of 100, and how it was worked out
Use it when
- You have a quote and want to know if the product can make money before you place the order.
- Freight, supplier, 3PL or import country changed, and you need the new cost per unit.
- You are choosing between air and sea, or between two order sizes.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste the quote, the freight quote and your fees. Get the duty rate from a customs broker or your country's tariff lookup and paste it in too.
- Say your selling price and target margin.
- Read the layers and the score. Fix any "estimate" layer by getting a real quote, then run it again.
- If you go ahead, enter the landed cost in Shopify as cost per item for each product.
