MATLAB bug tracer
Give it code that fails. Get the cause found, with breakpoints and variable checks to show it.
MATLAB bug tracer is a free AI skill for the job "Test and fix code". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
The cause of a MATLAB error found by running the code, not by guessing. You give it a script that fails or returns a wrong answer, and it shows you the line, the variable and the value that went wrong. It starts by deciding if reading the code is enough, as with a typo or an unused variable, or if the code must run. When it must run, it uses MATLAB through connected tools, sets breakpoints, steps through the code and inspects variables. It previews big data with a few rows only. When it spots an error message in a session, it asks you before it begins digging.
You give it
- The failing script or function
- The error message or wrong output
- What you expected to happen
- A working MATLAB install
You get
- The line and cause of the problem
- Variable values that prove it
- The breakpoints used
- A suggested fix
Use it when
- Your script stops with an error and the message tells you little.
- A function returns the wrong number and you cannot see where it changes.
- You need to learn what unfamiliar code does before editing it.
- You want to know why a variable has an odd value halfway through.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run MATLAB.
