What it does
The best quantity to order when you only get one shot, such as seasonal clothing, event merchandise or food that spoils. Order too few and you lose sales. Order too many and you eat the leftovers. The skill uses the classic newsvendor method. It takes your cost per unit, selling price, salvage value for unsold units and any shortage penalty. It then finds the order amount where the chance of selling out balances the cost of having extra. You describe demand as an average and a spread, or give past data. You get the best quantity, the expected profit, and the risk you run at other quantities, so you can pick a safer number if you want.
You give it
- Cost per unit
- Selling price
- Salvage value for unsold units
- Demand range or past sales
You get
- The best order quantity
- Expected profit
- The chance of running out
- Profit and risk at other order sizes
Use it when
- You must place one order for a holiday item and cannot reorder.
- A food product spoils in a week and you need to decide how much to make.
- You sell event shirts and unsold ones go to a discount bin.
- You want to see how much profit you give up if you order less than the best amount.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code (Python).
