What it does
A business that works in your hands often does not work in anyone else's, because the know-how lives in your head. A standards sheet says what good looks like. A manual says how, step by step, for each person. This skill takes your standards and writes a job card for each role: the steps in order, each with a number where one applies (a weight, a temperature, a time in minutes), and the check that tells the person it was done. It writes what to do when a standard is missed, so staff do not guess. It marks which parts are fixed and which a local owner may change. It ends with a trial sheet for someone who has never worked for you, with a column for each place they stop or ask. That trial is how you find out what is missing from the manual.
You give it
- Your standards sheet or a list of what good looks like
- The roles in your business and what each person does in a shift
- Anything that always goes wrong when you are away (optional)
- Your question (optional)
You get
- One job card per role, with ordered steps and numbers
- A missed-standard rule for each key standard
- A list of what is fixed and what a local owner may change
- A day-one trial sheet that records every place a newcomer stops
Use it when
- You have written standards but no step-by-step instructions anyone else could follow.
- A new hire keeps asking you the same questions.
- You plan to open a second location, hire a manager or hand the business to a partner.
