What it does
Most businesses try to be better at the same things as their rivals. That is a race with no end, and anything good enough to win gets copied. A real position means you do some things and refuse others, so a rival cannot copy you without giving something up. This skill separates what makes you better at the same tasks from what makes you different. It chooses a position: a narrow set of products, one group's needs, or a different way to reach buyers. It decides whether the position leads to a premium price or to lower cost. It writes the list of what you will not do, lists the activities that carry the position, and tests whether they fit together. New ideas are then tested against the position.
You give it
- What you offer, who you serve and how you reach them
- What your main rivals do (optional)
- The ideas you are considering adding
- Competitors (optional)
You get
- A position in one sentence, with who it is for
- Whether it leads to a premium price or lower cost
- A list of what you will not do
- A fit check of the activities and a yes or no on each new idea
Use it when
- You compete on the same things as everyone else and cannot say why you are different.
- Every new idea sounds good and the offer is getting blurry.
- A bigger rival copies what you do within months.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Describe your offer, your buyers and how you do the work. Add rivals if you know them.
- List the new ideas you are considering.
- Read the not-do list first. If it has nothing you mind giving up, ask again.
