What it does
Big firms usually see a better model coming. They hold back because copying it would hurt what already pays them. A rental chain that earns from late fees does not rush to sell a subscription. A seller with a large sales team does not rush to sell direct online at a lower price. This skill makes that holding back explicit. It writes how the leader earns, designs your model, then does the sum: what the leader's existing business loses if it copies, against what it gains. If the loss is bigger than the gain, the leader has a rational reason not to follow. It then checks the leader's other moves, such as a separate unit, a price cut or a purchase of you. It ends with a warning: this edge protects you from the leader, not from other newcomers who copy the same model.
You give it
- Who the market leader is and how it earns its money
- Your idea for doing the job differently
- Any numbers on the leader's revenue mix, prices and channels (optional)
You get
- How the leader earns, in a short table
- Your model, and which buyers it is better for
- A sum of what the leader would lose and gain by copying
- The leader's other moves, each with a likely result
- A call of strong, weak or not counter-positioning, with the first-year path
Use it when
- A larger rival dominates your market and you cannot beat it by being a little better.
- You are choosing a price model, sales route or product design and want one the leader would find costly to match.
- You have a new model and want to know if the leader will copy it the moment it works.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Name the leader and say how you think it earns, where the profit is and who it depends on.
- Describe your model in a few lines, covering what you charge, how you sell and what you leave out.
- Check the sum with real figures if you can find them, like the leader's price list or channel mix.
- Bring the result to "Ten-year durability checker" and "Power build-order planner".
