What it does
Many businesses spread across everything they could do. The ones that stay strong find a single focus where three circles overlap: what they are deeply passionate about, what they can be best in the world at, and what drives their money or resource engine. The result is not a goal. It is an understanding of what you are, written as a plain fact. This skill asks about each circle, including what you cannot be best at. It names the one measure that drives your engine and writes the overlap in plain words, free of bravado. It then asks what you want to be when you grow up, as an identity and not a cost goal, names what you are fundamentally best at and checks which markets are large and about to change. It ends with a stop-doing list and a bet that fits a named strength.
