What it does
Most owners quote "margin" as price minus what the factory charged. That is product margin, and it is the wrong number for setting ad targets. A $100 tee with a $30 unit cost looks like a 70% margin. Add freight, shipping to the customer, pick and pack, payment fees and an allowance for returns and discounts, and the same tee can be a 24% margin. Ads priced against 70% will lose money on every sale. This skill builds the full cost of delivery line by line, takes tax out of the price first, and shows three labelled margins side by side. It then turns gross margin into your break-even ROAS (1 divided by gross margin as a decimal) and break-even CAC (gross profit per order), and says how much of the price the product can spend on marketing. It scores the result and says what the score measures.
You give it
- Selling price, excluding tax
- Unit cost, plus freight and duty per unit
- Shipping to the customer, pick and pack, and packaging per order
- Payment fee percent
- Your refund rate and average discount (use the last 90 days)
- Your results (optional)
You get
- Product margin against true gross margin, with the gap in dollars and points
- Break-even ROAS and break-even CAC
- The three margins, labelled product, gross (CM2) and contribution (CM3)
- A go or no-go flag and a score out of 100, with the sum shown
Use it when
- You are about to launch a product and want to know what you can afford to spend on ads.
- Your ads look fine on paper but the bank balance does not agree.
- You are planning a sale and need to know what the margin is at the lower price.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste the price and every cost line. Use real shipping and warehouse quotes, not memory.
- Paste your return and discount rates from the last 90 days. For a new product, say they are guesses.
- Read the gap between product margin and gross margin first. That gap is the money your ad targets were missing.
- Run it again at your sale price before any promotion.
Workflows that use it
- Price a product so it pays after every cost
- Discount and price change checker
- Monthly channel budget reviewer
- Monthly profit close
- Weekly TikTok Ads review
