What it does
A colour-coded grid that shows, for each sign-up group, how many people come back in each following period, with a plain-language reading underneath. One glance tells you if you are keeping people better than last quarter. First you define the group (sign-up month, first purchase) and what counts as being back (a login, a purchase). The skill builds a table of group by period, turns it into retention percentages and draws the heatmap plus a curve for each group. It warns when groups have under about 100 people, because the numbers get noisy. The report then explains the pattern in simple terms. It uses small scripts, so you need to run code or have a tool that can.
You give it
- Event data with user ID, sign-up date and activity date
- What counts as a returning user
- Group size: day, week or month
- Number of periods to track (optional)
- Segments such as channel or plan (optional)
You get
- A cohort by period retention table
- A colour-coded heatmap
- Retention curves for each group
- A plain-English report of what it shows
Use it when
- A manager asks if retention is improving.
- You want to compare channels or plans by how long customers stay.
- You need to find the month when most people leave.
- You are building a report for a board or client.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run code.
