What it does
Most teams add tracking late and in a hurry. Event names drift, nobody trusts the numbers, and the question that matters, whether people come back, goes unanswered. A dashboard built on that data only shows the mess faster. The steps do it in the right order. First it plans a short event list with clear names, splits the details of an event from the details of a person, and picks the funnels and the sign-up groups to compare. Then you pause: ship the tracking, let real people use the product for two to four weeks, and export sign-up and activity dates. It then builds a grid of how many people in each group are still active week by week, and reads where people drop. The last step puts the main number, the grid and the funnel on one page you can open and share.
You give it
- A plain description of your product and what a person does in it
- Which tool you use for tracking, if you have one (optional)
- After the pause, sign-up dates and activity dates for each person
- The audience for the dashboard (optional)
You get
- One main number to steer by and a list of events with clear names
- Funnels, sign-up groups and a version note for the plan
- A colour-coded retention grid with a plain reading of where people drop
- A page with cards, charts and filters you can open and share
Use it when
- You are about to add analytics to a new product or feature.
- Your current tracking is a mess and you want to start again with a clean plan.
- You want to know how many people come back and which sign-up group holds best.
Steps
- Event tracking planner: Describe your product. Get an event list, naming rules, funnels, retention cohorts and one main metric to watch.
- Retention heatmap maker: Give it signup and activity dates. Get retention by group over time, as a colour-coded grid with a plain reading.
- Dashboard builder: Give it your data and what to track. Get one HTML dashboard with charts, filters and tables you can open and share.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Describe your product and what counts as a person using it. Step 1 gives the event plan and stops.
- Pause. Ship the events, let real people use the product for two to four weeks, then export sign-up dates and activity dates per person.
- Attach the export. It builds the grid and then the dashboard.
