What it does
A pay plan steers behaviour. If it pays only for new sales, reps will sign anyone who says yes, and some of those customers will leave. The plan then rewards the very thing that hurts the business later. This skill states in plain words what your plan pays for. It ranks reps by customer churn or retention and looks for a gap between the people who earn the most and the people whose customers stay. It tests a payout tied to retention bands and asks whether expansion pays more than a first sale. It ends with one behaviour you want to see and how you will tell within two quarters whether it changed. It marks guesses as guesses and does not claim a result you have not measured.
You give it
- Your pay plan in words or a table (rates, bonuses, targets)
- Each rep's sales and how many of their customers stayed or left
- The period the figures cover
- What you want reps to do more of (optional)
- Your question (optional)
You get
- What the plan pays for and what it ignores, in plain words
- A ranking of reps by churn next to their earnings
- One change to test, with the number that would show it worked
- A list of guesses and gaps in the data
Use it when
- Sales are up but customers keep leaving.
- You are changing a commission plan and want to know what the old one rewarded.
- You suspect your best earners are not your best keepers.
